What is Proxemis?
When a group or department requires a training program, sometimes the best option is a classroom environment with instructors ready to answer questions on-the-spot . Proxemis, our original classroom-based training program, is a five day tutorial designed to give participants hands-on experience with the latest tools, technologies and issues in proteomics-based bioinformatics. Each day, participants receive a morning lecture (from several instructors), and each afternoon contains a hands-on application of the theory learned earlier in the day.

Coursework: Days One to Three
- Overview and navigation in most popular resources, e.g.,
- Basic definitions: repository, database, knowledgebase
- Nature and source of sequence data: protein, cDNA, genomic DNA
- Master diversity and density of information in Swiss-Prot/TrEMBL (Uniprot), e.g.,
- Guidelines for appropriate navigation within this resource
- Guidelines for relevant selection of cross-references given specific questions
Coursework: Day Four
- Understand methods of sequence comparison
- Correct use of proper programs (parameterisation)
- How to interpret scores & statistics
Coursework: Day Five
Tools for mass data analysis and protein characterisation
- Overview of specificities of mass spectrometers & measurement methods
- Pros/cons of the various experimental strategies
- Overview of tools for protein identification / characterisation
